COBRA Deadline Extensions - On-Demand

Webinar now available On-Demand.

Program Length: 1.5 hours

WEBINAR SNAPSHOT: This webinar will answer all of your questions around how to navigate the complexities of COBRA as we enter the new year.

Last May, federal regulators suspended individual deadlines for electing and paying for COBRA coverage during the COVID-19 “outbreak period.”

As the COVID emergency drags on, the administrative problems for employers only intensify. Former employers could be incurring claims as far back as last March and still not have to decide whether they want COBRA.

This webinar will address how to handle any pending claims, address new claims with ease, and discuss federal regulations that may be in the pipeline as we enter a new year with a new presidential administration.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Achieve the deadlines for COBRA in 2021 with ease and confidence
  • Tackle pending claims from the “outbreak period”
  • Apply practical administrative tips for new claims
  • Discover and implement the latest federal regulations, including any changes that may arise from the Biden administration
  • Effectively monitor case developments and actions by the Department of Labor which may again be subject to litigation and change employers’ obligations.

About Your Presenter

Steve MindySteve Mindy
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP

Steve Mindy not only understands the ins and outs of employee benefit plans, he knows the delicate balance they strike in the overall health of an organization. Clients turn to him for help navigating issues from group health plans, health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), to fringe benefits and legal matters from new technology like mobile devices, apps and wearables.

With his extensive knowledge of the privacy and security laws that impact benefit plans, including HIPAA's privacy and security requirements, Steve frequently helps covered entities and business associates comply with breach and security incident notification requirements under HIPAA and other privacy laws.

Steve combines experience with the latest industry information to assist clients with ERISA's plan-asset rules, trust requirements and prohibited transaction exemptions. Knowing that not all plans are "one size fits all," he advises clients on association health plans (AHPs) and multiple employer welfare arrangements (MEWAs), voluntary employees' beneficiary associations (VEBAs) and union multiemployer plans. As HSAs continue to grow in popularity, he has built a niche practice counseling financial institutions, insurance companies and nonbank trustees on HSA matters.

Steve uses his prior experience as a federal law enforcement officer to assist clients with criminal and civil investigations and audits by the federal and state agencies that regulate benefit plans and data privacy and security.
